Sick and fit notes
Off sick for 7 days or less
You do not need a fit note for the first 7 days you are ill. This includes days you do not work, like weekends.
If your work asks for proof, you can fill in a form called an SC2.
Get a fit note
If you are ill for more than 7 days, you may need a fit note for work. A doctor, nurse or other health worker can give you one.
To ask for a fit note, use our online form or call us on 0191 455 2093. Tell us why you are off work and the day you became ill.
Get another fit note
If you are still not well when your fit note ends, you can ask for another one.
Please ask a few days before it ends. You can use our online form or call us on 0191 455 2093.
